Check before you start

  • The product matches the ordered dimensions, colour and stacking direction.
  • The frame, tracks, hardware and instructions are all present.
  • The fixing surface is sound, and the existing door and handle will not collide with the screen.
  • The tools and fixings match the final installation instructions.

Conditions you must not skip

After joining the frame corners, secure them with fixing screws through the factory-drilled holes. Corner screws secure the frame joints; they are not doorway or wall fixings.

If the work involves electrical wiring, water pipes, glass, structural components or an area you cannot safely work on, seek professional help first.

8 steps · Frame assembly

Illustrated Frame Assembly Guide

Follow the photos to fit the tracks and join the frame around the folded screen.

Assemble the frame first, then secure it at the opening according to the applicable instructions.

This guide covers assembly of the components shown. It does not cover fixing the frame into a doorway. Confirm the opening size, fixing method and required fittings with your supplier before installation.

Before you start

Before you start, place the components on a flat, clean, protected surface. Keep the screen folded together and locate the rollers, end guides and track openings.

First check that the components you received match those shown. If they differ or you are unsure, contact OVAN to confirm. Do not force the parts together.

Work through the steps in order. Select each step to view its images and check points.

With another person helping, hold the frame securely upright. Slowly pull the handle to extend the screen and check that it moves smoothly.

    Check points

Keep the frame supported throughout. Stop and check the alignment if the screen catches.

7 steps · Bonding to the existing door frame

Folding Screen Door Adhesive Installation Guide

Bonding the assembled screen frame to the existing door frame

For existing aluminium-alloy or timber door frames confirmed as suitable for adhesive fixing. This guide does not cover installation on brickwork, concrete or other surfaces requiring separately confirmed fixings, and does not replace the frame assembly instructions.

Stack the screen first to identify the front and rear

When the screen is stacked, the side towards which the panels project is the front. The side without that projection is the rear.

When the door is closed and the screen fully extended, the panels are flat; the front and rear do not change. Do not identify them by whether they face indoors or outdoors.

This shows only the relative orientation of the screen panels and frame. It is not to scale and is not a profile cross-section. Identify the sides on the product you receive.

Adhesive locations: apply double-sided tape in sections, with silicone sealant in the gaps, on the top and both side contact surfaces at the rear of the screen frame. Apply silicone sealant only to the downward-facing underside of the bottom track, without double-sided tape.

Preparation before installation

Check that the frame is assembled, all four corner joints are secured, and the dimensions suit the installation position. Have the supplied double-sided tape ready, and provide your own silicone sealant, caulking gun and cleaning cloth. A spirit level is recommended for checking alignment.

First confirm that the adhesive materials are suitable for the material and surface coating of the existing frame and the bottom track’s supporting surface, and for the intended fixing application. Prepare the contact surfaces as instructed. They must be sound, clean and dry, with no loose coating.

Work through the steps in order. Select a step to read its instructions, or select an image to enlarge it. Closing the image returns you to the current step.

  1. 01Apply the double-sided tape in sections

First stack the screen panels and identify the rear, where the panels do not project. Apply double-sided tape to the top and both sides of the rear of the screen frame, where it will contact the existing door frame, not to the existing frame itself. Apply it in sections, leaving gaps for sealant between them. Do not apply double-sided tape to the underside of the bottom track.

  2. 02Apply silicone sealant to the screen frame

At the top and both sides, apply silicone sealant to the gaps between the tape sections on the rear of the screen frame. Do not cover the tape. Apply sealant directly to the underside of the bottom track that faces the supporting surface, without double-sided tape. Here, ‘underside’ is not the same as the ‘rear’ described above.

Keep silicone sealant out of the screen channels and other moving parts. Peel off the outer release liner from the double-sided tape before bringing the frame into contact.

The diagram is not to scale. Check tape spacing, sealant bead dimensions and quantities against the applicable installation plan and material requirements. Do not estimate them from the diagram.
  3. 03Position against the existing door frame

With tape and sealant applied to the top and both sides, and sealant applied to the underside of the bottom track, align the screen frame with its intended position. Bring the frame against the existing door frame and align the bottom track with its supporting surface. Keep the frame steady. Do not yet carry out the final section-by-section pressing in Step 06.

Double-sided tape may bond immediately on contact. Confirm the position first; do not rely on substantially moving an already bonded frame to correct its alignment.

  4. 04Adjust the frame to plumb and level

If the existing door frame is itself correctly aligned, use it as a reference: align the screen frame with the left and right vertical edges of the fixed frame, then level the top track against its top edge, keeping the corresponding edges parallel. Do not use the open door leaf as a reference.

If the existing frame is leaning or you are unsure, use a spirit level to check that the screen frame is plumb and the top track is level. Do not follow a crooked frame or force the screen frame out of shape.

  5. 05Test the screen’s sliding movement

Have another person hold the screen frame steady. Gently move the leading end of the screen to check that it extends and stacks smoothly, without catching, rubbing or interference from the existing door or handle. For a two-sided folding configuration, check the left and right sides separately.

If the screen catches, stop and recheck the position and frame alignment. Do not pull forcefully to ‘free it up’, or use the screen panels or handle to support the whole frame.

  6. 06Press along the screen frame in sections

Once the position and operation have been checked, press along the contact areas at the top and both sides of the screen frame, section by section, so that the double-sided tape fully contacts and bonds to the existing frame. The underside of the bottom track bonds with silicone sealant, without double-sided tape. Press the frame, not the screen panels.

Apply pressure towards the contact surface of the existing frame, without compressing the track channels. Follow the pressure requirements in the instructions for the supplied double-sided tape. Do not hammer the frame or clamp it in a way that deforms it.

  7. 07Leave undisturbed before use

After installation, leave it undisturbed for at least 24 hours and wait until the silicone sealant is fully dry before use.
